H. Chapman left here to make a canvassing trip through the country, and he seemed as well as usual. On his journey his horse became sick, and the Major stopped at Mr. John Johnson’s residence to administer medical assistance to his steed; and soon after he began to work with the horse, the Major seemed weak and fell to the ground. Mr. J. took him to the house and sent for Mr. Will Chapman, a so son of the Major, and the son took him to his house where he died on the morning of the 19th, instant. Major Chapman was born the 16th of July, 1812. He was well known through the country and thought a great deal of by all who knew him. His faithful horse died about the same time the Major breathed his last. His relatives have the sympathies of the county. =========================================================================== **TRANSCRIBER NOTE:** William Hart Chapman, son of Thomas Chapman and Sarah Hart.
