In 1791 part of Fairfax Co., VA was ceded to the District of Columbia. In 1801, this area became Alexandria Co., District of Columbia. Enumerated with Virginia during the 1800 Census but the records are lost. Alexandria County was retro ceded from DC to VA in 1846. Renamed Arlington County in 1920.
